Paddle boards are becoming more popular for water sport participants. Paddle boarding is basically surfing with a paddle. Paddleboard s have grown in popularity as surfboard manufacturing has become more advanced. Stand up paddle boarding is a variation of paddle boarding that utilizes a special stand-up paddle that allows the rider to ride in a forward and backward motion. A further development of paddle boarding is sit up paddle boarding, which is essentially the same as stand up paddle boarding except that the rider does not have to sit on the paddleboard to surf. Stand up paddle boarding has also gained in popularity as it is more convenient than the sit up paddle boarding rider.

Stand up paddle boards have a variety of advantages. They provide a high speed, fun filled water sport with minimal physical exertion. Paddle boards are made of a durable composite of vinyl and Kevlar, similar to a scuba suit. The lightweight material and advanced design to enable them to be carried by individuals of different ages and even people confined to wheelchairs. Stand up paddle boards are great for people who are new to the sport of surfing or other water sports like kayaking, rafting and stand-up paddle boarding.

Stand up paddle boards use a polyethylene plastic as their paddle material rather than foam or composite materials which can deteriorate over time. Polyethylene is a durable lightweight plastic which makes them easy to transport and store. Wooden sup boards use a soft plush wood which makes them more comfortable to paddle.

There are several different types of stand up paddle boards available. These include carbon fiber paddle boards, plastic cups, wood and several different types of composite materials. Wooden paddle boards tend to be stronger than carbon fiber and plastic but are not as aerodynamic. They tend to be stiffer and have less give when you paddle with a paddle than does a foam or carbon fiber board.

The construction of stand-up paddle boards tends to follow a standard form with several different panels stretching from one board to another. Panels can be made from various types of materials including acrylic, fiberglass, carbon fiber or vinyl. This is known as gusset construction. The construction of solid sups is often made of a single panel stretching from board to board. The seams in solid sups are usually on both sides of the board, which helps them to be sturdier.

There are several advantages to using fiberglass or acrylic construction as a paddle board material. Acrylic and fiberglass are lighter than materials such as foam. Because they are lighter, these materials can be easily carried from location to location. Paddle wheels which are typically made from plastic are also easier to maneuver on paddle boards which are made from either fiberglass or acrylic.

One disadvantage of using fiberglass or acrylic construction is that the wheels on most stand-up paddle boards are less maneuverable than wheels made from other materials. This means that you will have less maneuverability when surfing if your paddle boards are not designed for easy handling. The wheels on stand-up boards are usually constructed more for utility than for design. Fiberglass or acrylic wheels will roll better on brushouts or other smooth surfaces. The wheels on many of the popular stand-up paddle boards are just not designed for great maneuverability.

One advantage of stand-up paddle boards made from acrylic or fiberglass is that they are more resistant to sun damage. This means that you do not need to expose your board to direct sunlight for extended periods of time. Exposure to the sun can cause the material to break down. One disadvantage is that the resistance to sunlight is only for shallow water. If your board spends most of its time out in the water, you may want to consider other types of surfboards that are less prone to breaking down in sunlight. Stand-up paddle boards made from plastic cups are not very resistant to sunlight and will probably need to be stored in a shade during the summer months.
